Lanesboro Arts Gallery 30th Anniversary: Branding design for advance promotion, merchandise and events

Designed this promotional poster for Susan Strand-Penman solo show at the Lanesboro Arts Gallery. Organized and curated work and managed opening event.

This poster was designed for the water-themed group art exhibit at the Lanesboro Arts Gallery. Illustration by Amy Ning. Conceived of show, organized and curated work and managed opening event.

Partnered with Suzette Moyer and Sara Quinn to create the inaugural issue of an occasional digital magazine. For the first issue, 40 women (from 11 countries) illustrated how they are finding inspiration during the isolation of 2020. I developed the branding and architecture design. What began as a one-issue COVID magazine, started with Sara Quinn and Suzette Moyer, became three issues due to its warm reception from contributors and readers. It was featured in PRINT magazine and highlighted by several high-profile design influencers.

Partnered with Suzette Moyer and Sara Quinn to create the inaugural issue of an occasional digital magazine. For this second issue, 34 women from 9 countries illustrated their dreams for 2021. Issues of the magazine may be viewed and downloaded at https://wandermag.design.

I designed this little toolbox for participating artists to use to build promo pieces for their own social channels. I used Hoeffler’s Ziggurat italic as the starting point for the logo, then customized the letterforms.

Small new brand design project for a small company.

Was hired to design an “out of the box” newsletter prototype for a tech research organization. This was the most edgy (and, ultimately, ill-fated) version.

This is typical of the kind of drawings I often make for clients to hone complicated processes or concepts collaboratively.

Designed and executed a full rebranding of all products. Goal was to add impact to stack up against younger, bold competitors, while still maintaining sense of authority and trust.

For a Roll Call piece on the disappearance of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland

Redesigned logo for Association of Alternative Newsmedia and created a new sub-brand: India Media Ads. Created complementary palettes and built numerous extensions, including: business cards, brochures, Keynote presentation and website.

The creative company I led, Electric Ivy, produced a film from conception through final production. We participated in fundraising and secured a technical sponsor, Sony. Additionally, we created all promotional collateral and produced an opening event. The film is still playing at the San Diego History Center (museum). Previously, it played at the San Diego airport and aired on public television.

In honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of what is now the Hudson River, the National Park Service commissioned National Geographic Maps to create an interactive experience.

The National Geographic Maps team was commissioned to build an interactive tourism map experience for the government of Switzerland.

Art direction and design of Africa supplement map, which appeared in the print magazine. This map was the first of a new approach to supplement design, with more focus on information and less on decoration and embellishment.

Kris has been a regular speaker and moderator at conferences and events. She has presented across the U.S., in Asia, Europe and South America. Here, as editor-in-chief of CQ and Roll Call, she interviews bookers/producers of the major network news programs about how the Trump era has changed their booking of expert guests.
